Becky Hammon Chooses To Play For Russia In Olympics, Called Traitor
Becky Hammon, who once was a popular player in the WNBA, has decided to represent Team Russia in the 2008 Olympic Games.
The agile point guard was born and bred in the U.S.A., but last year she signed a four-year contract to play for a professional team in Russia.
Now that the word is out that the one-time South Dakota Miss Basketball will be representing Team Russia in the 2008 Olympic Games, U.S. coach Anne Donovan has called Becky Hammon a “traitor.”
Hammon said she’d do anything to be on the U.S. team; but since they don’t want her, she is pursuing option No. 2.
Does the athlete deserve to be called a traitor for playing for another country - and the one that was America’s fiercest Olympic rival just 20 years ago? Or is she justified in finding this other opportunity?
