Leeza Gibbons Mother, Gloria Jean, Dies
This morning is filled with all sorts of sad news.
Leeza Gibbons is mourning the death of her mother Gloria Jean, who passed away May 22 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.
Gloria was 72.
“My mom was emancipated recently from the prison of confusion that has kept her hostage for a decade,” the former Dancing with the Stars contestant wrote on her Web site. “Gloria Jean Dyson Gibbons left a legacy of love and change that is powerful and beautiful.”

My thoughts and prayers go out to Leeza and her family during this very difficult time. I used to live in Leeza’s hometown of Irmo, South Carolina. Leeza and I have emailed one another recently . . . she has been a big support to me since my mother also suffers from Alzheimer’s last stage of progression. I appreciate Leeza’s strength and willingness to share her own experiences with the public about this horrible illness.
