Joyce ‘Dottie’ Rambo Dies in Bus Wreck

Joyce ‘Dottie’ Rambo, a legendary gospel singer and songwriter, died early Sunday morning when her tour bus crashed into a highway embankment in Southwest Missouri. She was 74.

A spokesperson for her recording label confirmed to Knoxville, Tennessee television station WVLT that the Kentucky native was asleep at the time of the accident.

Statement from Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton, who has recorded some of Rambo’s songs, sent condolences to “everyone involved in this terrible tragedy.”

“I know Dottie is in heaven in the arms of God right now, but our earth angel will surely be missed,” Parton said in a statement. “Dottie was a dear friend, a fellow singer, songwriter and entertainer, and as of late my duet singing partner.”

Rambo was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame last year and the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

She was awarded the 1968 Grammy for Best Soul Gospel Performance for The Soul of Me.
